What to Expect

Your cultural food experience begins in Malé with a guided visit to the vibrant local market and fish market, where you’ll select the fresh ingredients used to prepare your Maldivian lunch. Enjoy the rich aromas and sample tropical fruits and vegetables you may be tasting for the first time. After collecting your ingredients, board the public ferry for a scenic 20-minute ride to Hulhumalé, followed by a short walk to your local host family’s home.

Upon arrival, you’ll be warmly welcomed and invited to take part in every step of the cooking process. Learn how to chop vegetables the Maldivian way, prepare fresh fish, and grate and milk coconut—one of the most essential elements of local cuisine. Maldivian dishes are simple yet flavorful, making this a fun and approachable cooking experience for all skill levels.

When the meal is ready, sit with the family to enjoy the delicious dishes you helped create. This is the perfect moment to share your thoughts about the cooking experience, ask questions, and learn more about Maldivian traditions. You can even practice a few Dhivehi words and phrases to use throughout the rest of your trip.

This is a scheduled tours of no more than 8 persons ensuring your safety and comfort, as well as a memorable experience.

One of our local tour leaders accompanies you throughout the tour allowing access to experiences most guests visiting the Maldives will not encounter. You can travel safely in the knowledge that you are in capable hands, all our team are certified in the care and safety of guests holding First Emergency Response, PADI Snorkeling Guide and Lifeguard certification.
